Responsibilities

  • Your core responsibility will be to prosecute offences such as employing foreigners without work passes, making false statements to the Ministry and breaching work pass conditions, under the various pieces of legislation administered by the Ministry such as the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act, Employment Act, Employment Agencies Act and Workplace Safety and Health Act. In the course of your work, you will draft court documents such as charges, statements of facts and submissions. You will also present your case in the Subordinate Courts against accused persons and their defence counsel, if any.
  • Over time, you may be given the options of doing civil advisory, legislation, and/or adjudication work. Civil advisory and legislation work will involve legal research, giving advice to our partner departments, as well as seeking concurrence from the Attorney-General’s Chambers where necessary. Adjudication work involves hearing and deciding claims made by workers under the Work Injury Compensation Act.

Requirements
  • We welcome applications from analytical and articulate individuals (both fresh graduates and mid-career professionals) who possess good degrees in any discipline, excellent writing skills, and are interested in a rewarding career in the public service. Relevant training will be provided.
  • Individuals holding LLB degrees awarded by universities recognised under the Legal Profession (Qualified Persons) Rules (the “Rules”) may wish to note that any period of employment as a prosecuting officer will be counted as relevant legal practice or work for the purposes of the Rules, and will also be counted towards the practice training period for the purposes of the Legal Profession Act.
